For those of you like me who want a college football playoff system, and enjoyed hearing and reading about last week's Congressional hearings, below is a good article for you to review and enjoy.

ReplyDeleteSince you tune into WBNS, I am sure you are familiar with the conversation Hooley and Spielman had last Friday. Many conferences have moved to a 12 team - 2 division format ending with a Championship game. The winner of the Championship game is the Conference champion.
Do you think it is in the best interst of the Big Ten to add a twealveth team? If so, who would be your top five teams be to take that final Big Ten spot?
I think it would be great for the Big Ten conference, especially for exposure late in the year. Have the game played on a neutral field and in front of a nationally televised primetime audience.
It could help build new rivalries.
The team I would like to see added could be anyone of these schools:
1-Louisville (helps conference in hoops as well)
2-West Virginia
3-Virginia Tech
4-Pittsburgh
Notre Dame is always brought up, but I don't see them joining a conference anytime soon.
With the conference divided in to two divisions, could we get a situation where Michigan and Ohio State play twice in one year? Would be fun.
Notre Dame is the dream team for The Big Ten's 12th team. I don't think The Big Ten will add another team unless it's a marquee name, and I would guess they'll be content to stand pat until they hear otherwise from ND.
ReplyDeleteIf they can add ND, I'd look for OSU and Penn State to be in the East (along with Illinois, Indiana, Northwestern, and Purdue), and ND and Michigan in the West (with Iowa, MSU, Minnesota, and Wisconsin. This way, you'd have two marquee teams per division. As for a conf championship game, Chicago is the home of The Big Ten, so Soldier Field could be an ideal location.
If another team is not added, I would prefer The Big Ten to play a true conference schedule, such as The Pac-10 does. This way, you'd have two non-conference games, plus ten conference games. No more split Big Ten championships like last year or in 2005.
